Born in 1974. Dr. Tom A. Rüsen is managing director of the Witten Institute for Family Business (WIFU) at Witten/Herdecke University. Additionally he is the CEO of the non-profit WIFU-Foundation. After studying business economics at Witten/Herdecke University he worked as in-house consultant for large international industrial groups as well as advisor for restructuring and financial re-organisation. The major focus of his research, teaching, and publications are examinations of conflicts and crises dynamics, structural risks in family businesses, and their cross-generational evolution. As part of his advisory and coaching activities for entrepreneurial families he accompanies and supports succession processes, conflict situations and crises, the development of family governance and family management systems. Since 2015 he is honorary professor of the faculty of management and economics at Witten/Herdecke University, since 2017 Visiting Professor at Lucerne School of Business.

The major focus of his research, teaching, and publications are examinations of conflicts and crises dynamics, structural risks in family businesses, and their cross-generational evolution. As part of his advisory and coaching activities for entrepreneurial families he accompanies and supports succession processes, conflict situations and crises, the development of family strategies and family management systems.
