Julian Grunewald has been a scholarship holder at the WIFU Foundation since May 2016. His focus is on restructuring and recovery research and he is especially interested in stakeholder crises in family businesses. These arise primarily through conflicts between members of the company’s management and its supervisory bodies, shareholders, employees (and their representatives), banks and other creditors. He examines the extent of which stakeholder crises in companies – whose outcome can often be elemental to subsequent recovery – can be adequately appreciated and negotiated in the process of designing recovery concepts. His dissertation is being supervised by Professor Dr Marcel Hülsbeck and supported by Struktur Management Partner GmbH.
He studied at Cologne University and Eastern Illinois University, gaining Diplom-Kaufmann and Master of Business Administration qualifications. While studying he gained experience in founding an IT company, in which he remained a partner until early 2015. After studying, he worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers AG, where he advised small and medium sized enterprises on transactions and restructuring. He also worked freelance.
