Dr. Sigrun Caspary studied Japanology with economics and political science at the University of Bonn and completed her doctoral thesis on industrial politics in the Japanese aviation industry in 1996 (Professor Kreiner, egregia). During this time she received two scholarships to spend four years at Hitotubashi University (Mombusho Fellowship) and the Institute for International Economic Studies (IIES) in Tokyo. In 1997, after a brief spell at a Japanese bank in Frankfurt, she joined the Institute of Cross-Cultural Economic Research (field: Japan) at the Witten/Herdecke University. Research areas include Japanese industry, supplier relations, the international comparison of networks, and post-growth economy. At WIFU she is a Research Fellow assisting in the project ‘Family businesses and business families in Japan – differences between and commonalities with German family businesses’.
