Dr Tobias Köllner has been part of the team at the Department of Organisation and Development of Business Families under Professor Dr Heiko Kleve since August 2017. Dr Köllner was a doctoral student at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle from 2006 to 2009, and completed his dissertation at Leipzig University in 2011. After that he was responsible for a number of research and consultancy projects, and worked as a lecturer at the University of Magdeburg’s Institute of Social Sciences. There he headed up a project which was funded by the German Research Society (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG). This research forms the basis for his habilitation, which he is currently completing and which will be published by Routledge in 2019. Dr Köllner will assist in research at WIFU by investigating east German and eastern European family businesses and business families, and will also augment the research with an ethnological perspective on business families. His work focuses on analysing how business families and family businesses (first successions) come about, the meaning of religion in family businesses and their cultural integration. In recent years, Dr Köllner’s articles have appeared in Europe-Asia Studies; Journal of Religion, State and Society as well as Anthropology Today.
